Quality Manager

Job Summary

Midland Aerospace has an exciting new opportunity within a long established manufacturing organisation, using a variety of Machining and Fabrication processes to manufacture their products from our modern purpose built facility located in Sutton-in-Ashfield.

We supply components to the civil and military Aerospace and Defence industry sectors, and have a vision to develop these and wider markets making the working environment fascinating and challenging.

The role will be responsible for ensuring quality through the production development cycle and ensure quality requirements are maintained through the manufacturing and NPI processes.

Role Responsibilities

  • Lead, guide and support quality team and other key business stakeholders
  • Ensure compliance to legislation and group requirements
  • Develop and maintain an effective quality management system
  • Drive the business right first time approach and quality, maintained through proactive problem solving and improvement methodologies.
  • Leading and implementing preventive methods, driving quality at source, APQP and continuous improvement techniques.
  • Responsible for NADCAP for special processes and AS9100 accreditation of the QMS
  • Responsible for recording of all internal and external non-conformances through Q-Pulse software
  • Responsible for reporting monthly, weekly and daily quality non-conformity trend data and creation of relevant Pareto Charts and KPI’s
  • Customer interface for related quality issues
  • Responsible for the effectiveness of the Material Review Board (MRB) process to disposition non-conforming internal and external parts in a timely manner
  • Responsible for all aspects of product and regulatory compliance in accordance with CAA, EASA, and MOD requirements
  • Create, maintain and execute an internal/external audit program considering both internal functions and supply chain
  • Reduce the non-conformance of products within the business by driving continuous improvements, Right First Time strategies and Root Cause Analysis Corrective Actions (RCCA).
  • Ensure the application of industrial process control tools (process mapping, MSA, PFMEA, Control Plans, DCM, FVRA) where applicable
  • Compliance to all company procedures especially, Health and safety, Quality and Environmental.

Required Education, Skills and Qualifications

  • Degree in a relevant manufacturing engineering discipline
  • Technical expertise in quality management
  • Proven comprehensive knowledge of complex component measurement using a multitude of measure equipment types (CMM contact / scanning / non-contact, Contour, Roundness, Roughness, Air gauging, Hand held gauge, etc)
  • Continuous improvement or lean manufacturing experience, preferably a certification in Six Sigma
  • Familiar with the EASA certification process requirements
  • Proficient understanding of regulatory/compliance in an aerospace environment including the AS9100 quality systems.
  • Knowledge of processes and equipment required to manufacture complex mechanical components including machining, cleaning, testing and inspection.
  • Working knowledge of Production Part Approval Process and associated qualification requirements.
  • Ability to influence and negotiate with internal and external customers.
  • Excellent Communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Have a good understanding of lean principles
  • Have a “Can Do” Attitude

Production/ Shop Floor Supervisor

Job Summary

Midland Aerospace has an exciting new opportunity within a long-established manufacturing organisation, using a variety of Machining and Fabrication processes to manufacture their products from our modern purpose-built facility located in Sutton-in-Ashfield.

We supply components into the civil and military Aerospace and Defence industry sectors, and have a vision to develop these and wider markets making the working environment fascinating and challenging.

An opportunity has arisen for a Shop Floor Supervisor to rotate on days and nights (either 2 weeks days and 2 weeks nights or 3 weeks of days and 1 of nights) with another Shop Floor Supervisor.

The primary function of this position is to assign tasks, lead and motivate their team leads and the persons reporting to them. They must ensure their cell(s) are working efficiently, productively, are complying with the expected company standards and are performing to the expected targets daily. They will report directly to the Production Manager.

Job Type / Category

The primary job duties and responsibilities are, but not limited to:

  • Responsible for opening and locking / securing the works premises including alarm activation when required to do so
  • Provide leadership to their team
  • Mentor and motivate employees
  • Create and develop Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions
  • Train team leaders and the team
  • Responsible for quality of their areas ensuring 5Y’s are used to find root causes and corrective actions are implemented
  • Responsible for ensuring problem solving techniques are being used in conjunction with the Quality / Engineering to improve quality
  • Ensuring safe working practices, company procedures and policies are being adhered to
  • Ensure the correct work ethic is always being applied
  • Assigning tasks to team
  • Monitor work progress of the Supervisors, team and cell leads
  • Monitor and measure performance (Eg. RFT, OTIF, Dwell, Throughput, Late to Starts, Attendance and Productivity)
  • Attend applicable team / management boards and meetings
  • Develop, train and mentor continuous improvement projects using lean toolbox techniques working with the CI Engineer to facilitate a CI culture
  • Responsible for ensuring OEE measures are being conducted and improvement action plans are implemented to improvement performance
  • Ensure all work centres / operatives have clear instruction to enable them to work efficiently including work to lists
  • Ensure / coordinate engineering and quality support is provided to all areas when required
  • Capacity planning

The successful candidate should come from an Engineering background with experience on the Shop Floor of an engineering/ manufacturing industry.

CMM Programmer

Duties and responsibilities

  • CMM program validation
  • Ability to understand and interpret complex technical drawings
  • Competent ability to understanding of first principle measurement
  • Work closely with the production floor for the interpretation of results
  • Production of F.A.I.R.s
  • Inspection planning for NPI parts
  • Actively been involved in problem solving
  • PC-DMIS experience required.
  • Good knowledge of datum structures, key characteristics and G,D&T.

3 Axis operator (night shift)

Job Description

Midland Aerospace has an exciting new opportunity within a long established manufacturing organisation, using a variety of Machining and Fabrication processes to manufacture their products from our modern purpose built facility located in Sutton-in-Ashfield.

We supply components into the civil and military Aerospace and Defence industry sectors, and have a vision to develop these and wider markets making the working environment fascinating and challenging.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Experience of running HAAS, DMG (mainly) & Hermle machines – to cover multiple programs & product spread.
  • Experience of working multiple machines.
  • Setting and operating above machine types (Spindle probing, Datum setting, key characteristics and G,D&T, tool offsetting, program selection/saving, Balluff handling).
  • Reading 2D engineering drawings.
  • Recording productive time on manufacturing systems and managing Route Cards.
  • Involvement in team activities such as 5S, TPM, SQDCP board discussions, OEE and other improvement activities.
  • Promoting and maintaining a safe work environment and practices.
  • Self-inspection of parts produced, resolving Non-Conformance (NCR) issues.
  • Experienced use of standard measuring systems and methodologies.

Qualifications:

  • The Ideal candidate will have an academic background if possible with NVQ level 3 / City & Guilds in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Requires time served on programming / editing via Haas control systems (Fanuc or Mazak will also be considered).

Person spec

  • Industry experience - Aerospace (ideal), Nuclear, Medical or Automotive (high end), Motorsport: all with high tolerances (+/-0.01mm, Airbus SO4 and S104 stds).
  • Working to AS9100 / EASA Part 21 (G) standards (ideal).
  • Must have good team working skills coupled with the ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment.
  • Flexible and forward thinker with a 'can do' attitude.
  • Ideally located within easy local commute to Sutton-in-Ashfield site.

Hours of work: 19:45 – 06:00 Monday to Thursday
