Purchasing Assistant

Duties and responsibilities

This position reports directly to the Purchasing Manager, and will be a core part of a team of two working with multiple areas across the whole Company.

  • Lead buyer for all non-material purchases, i.e. office supplies, facilities, small capex projects, Health & Safety/Environmental.
  • Ownership of all Contractor Management aspects like RAMS, Permits, On-site induction/wrap ups and compliance checks.
  • Take the lead Supplier Compliance, incl. Selection, Audits, visits, providing supplier performance KPI’s, managing poor performers/improvement plans & outbound liability claims.
  • Reviewing and implementing Long Term Agreements (LTA’s) and Service Level Agreements (SLA’s) with key suppliers (in conjunction with the Directors), incl. contract formation, agreeing T&C’s, payment terms and financial assessments/due diligence activities.
  • Raising PO’s via Purchasing system and dealing with necessary admin for the function.
  • Supporting the sub-con supplier purchasing process (raising PO’s, document management etc), in conjunction with the SubCon Co-ordinator.
  • Supporting the supplier selection, appraisal and validation activity.
  • Liaising with the Company’s supply base, building relationships and exploiting opportunities for Win/Win scenarios.
  • Providing spend analysis and commodity / categorisation data.
  • Dealing with REACH, WEEE, Environmental and other statutory obligations.
  • Liaise with internal and external supply chains to provide technical support to the business development process, supporting bid preparation, manufacturing proposals, Requests For Quotes (RFQ's) and Major Bids.
  • Work within the team to open opportunities for price breaks on production runners, evaluating and aligning BOM/demand requirements with production capacity (push/pull/expedite), lead time fulfilment and within budget/capital constraints.
  • Provide statistical analysis and support to prepare for a new ERP system.
  • Undertake internal cost reviews to identify opportunities for cost reduction and improvement.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a Purchasing role / department is essential.
  • The Ideal candidate will be CIPS qualified or proven experience within Purchasing.
  • Base education to GCSE level or equivalent (A-C) in Maths and English.

Person specification

  • Ideally prior experience gained within the Aerospace market and / or engineering / manufacturing businesses.
  • Excellent MS Office (Intermediate Excel, Outlook, Word) and previous business systems skills.
  • Track record of building relationships with suppliers/contacts
  • Excellent communicator, with the ability to moderate communication style to match the audience / task (selection of correct media also – verbal/face-to-face, written, e-mail etc).
  • Must have good team working skills coupled with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Eye for detail, analytical thinking, commercial awareness and customer/supplier facing.
  • Excellent organisational, time-management and co-ordination skills.
  • Creative thinker with a 'can do' attitude.**

Customer Services Advisor

Roles & Responsibilities

This function will be critical to the success of Midland’s growth aspirations and will contribute directly to the Company’s performance.

Duties to include but not exhaustive: -

  • Face to face and/or telephone liaison with customers dealing with queries and acting as a communication focal point.
  • Responding to customer queries/Orderbook Management
  • Processing and progressing customer orders from placement to delivery.
  • Ensuring that customer orders are delivered on time to the applicable service levels; delivery dates and customer expectations are satisfied or exceeded.
  • Thorough contact review is completed for all orders and that all issues are resolved before planning is issued to production.
  • Working with the Production, Engineering and Quality Departments, providing full support to the Directors delivering customer demands.
  • Ensure as part of a cross functional team we adopt appropriate and efficient practices: reviewing and influencing local processes to reduce waste, improve efficiency and establish a dynamic and flexible best in class capability.
  • Fostering a quality right first-time ethos throughout the business as well as promoting safe working practices at all times, addressing issues found immediately.

Person spec

  • Must have prior experience in a customer services office environment.
  • Previous experience within an engineering /manufacturing industry a distinct advantage
  • Confident friendly telephone manner
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Good IT skills and excellent knowledge of spreadsheets -Excel/Word/Outlook etc
  • Knowledge of business systems (Sage or equivalent advantageous).
  • Microsoft project (or similar) experience would be advantageous but not essential.
  • Technical competence, eye for detail, analytical thinking, commercial awareness and customer facing.

Skilled Sheet Metal Worker

Job Summary

We supply components into the civil and military Aerospace and Defence industry sectors, and have a vision to develop these and wider markets making the working environment fascinating and challenging.

We have a vacancy for a Skilled Sheet Metal Worker to join the Fabrication team.

Job Type / Category

Day shift: Monday - Thursday 07:30-16:30 and Friday 07:30-12:30

Required Education, Skills and Qualifications

Candidate will be familiar with working with Stainless Steel, Aluminium and Titanium.

You will have relevant experience, the ability to read drawings and are familiar with working to tight tolerances within Aerospace.

The successful candidate will ideally have an NVQ in Fabrication but experience is also highly important and will be considered without the relevant qualifications.

NPI (New Product Introduction) Engineer

Job Description

Midland have an exciting opportunity, on the back of significant planned growth and customer development, for a requirement for an NPI Project Engineer. Due to strategic growth intent across new and existing markets the company is looking to grow by 52% over a 3-year horizon. The role will be to interface between customers, engineering and production.

Responsible for planning, implementing, and coordinating customers’ new product introduction to the business to ensure a smooth delivery from ‘cradle to grave’.

  • Support New Product Introduction by ensuring the correct procedures are followed through the development and release to production to meet all aspects of cost, manufacturability, process capability, delivery etc for successful launch.
  • Develop and implement a robust NPI process.
  • Oversee defined work packages, including detailed instructions, drawings, bills of material, references, inspection requirements.
  • Conform to overall quality control of the work and report regularly on project status.
  • Support customer meetings / discussions.
  • Cooperate and communicate effectively with department managers.
  • Ensure the highest quality throughout, minimise teething issues and faults through formal root-cause-analysis investigations and failure analyses.
  • Develop, oversee and seek continuous improvement of the NPI process e.g conducting lessons learnt workshops.
  • Prepare reports with observations and recommendations regarding existing or required machinery.
  • Identify and drive efficient production, tooling and programming methods to ensure successful product delivery.

Qualifications

  • The Ideal candidate will have an academic background if possible with NVQ level 3 / City & Guilds in Mechanical Engineering. Would have served a recognised apprenticeship and have good Aerospace experience.
  • Project Management qualifications would also be an advantage.

3 Axis operator

Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Experience of running HAAS, DMG (mainly) & Hermle machines – to cover multiple programs & product spread.
  • Experience of working multiple machines.
  • Setting and operating above machine types (Spindle probing, Datum setting, key characteristics and G,D&T, tool offsetting, program selection/saving, Balluff handling).
  • Reading 2D engineering drawings.
  • Recording productive time on manufacturing systems and managing Route Cards.
  • Involvement in team activities such as 5S, TPM, SQDCP board discussions, OEE and other improvement activities.
  • Promoting and maintaining a safe work environment and practices.
  • Self-inspection of parts produced, resolving Non-Conformance (NCR) issues.
  • Experienced use of standard measuring systems and methodologies.

Qualifications:

  • The Ideal candidate will have an academic background if possible with NVQ level 3 / City & Guilds in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Requires time served on programming / editing via Haas control systems (Fanuc or Mazak will also be considered).

Person spec

  • Industry experience - Aerospace (ideal), Nuclear, Medical or Automotive (high end), Motorsport: all with high tolerances (+/-0.01mm, Airbus SO4 and S104 stds).
  • Working to AS9100 / EASA Part 21 (G) standards (ideal).
  • Must have good team working skills coupled with the ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment.
  • Flexible and forward thinker with a 'can do' attitude.
  • Ideally located within easy local commute to Sutton-in-Ashfield site.
