CNC Turner Multi Axis

Reports to: Team Leader

The Company

Midland Aerospace has an exciting new opportunity within a long established manufacturing organisation, using a variety of Machining and Fabrication processes to manufacture their products from our modern purpose built facility located in Sutton-in-Ashfield.

We supply components into the civil and military Aerospace and Defence industry sectors, and have a vision to develop these and wider markets making the working environment fascinating and challenging.

A requirement has now arisen for an experienced CNC Multi Axis Turner to join the Company.

Duties and responsibilities

This position reports directly to the CNC Turning Team Leader, residing within the Manufacturing Supervisor’s area of responsibility within the operations team.

  • Experience of running DMG Mori multi axis lathes, Siemens/Fanuc controls.
  • Setting and operating machine types (Spindle probing, Datum setting, key characteristics and G, D&T, tool offsetting, program selection/saving).
  • Reading 2/3D engineering drawings.
  • Recording productive time on manufacturing systems and managing Route Cards.
  • Involvement in team activities such as 5S, TPM, SQDCP board discussions, OEE and other improvement activities.
  • Promoting and maintaining a safe work environment and practices.
  • Self-inspection of parts produced, resolving Non-Conformance (NCR) issues.
  • Experienced use of standard measuring systems and methodologies.
  • 39 hour working week with an early finish on Friday (5 hours).

Qualifications

  • The Ideal candidate will have an academic background if possible with NVQ level 3 / City & Guilds in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Requires time served on programming / setting & operating Multi Axis CNC lathes.

Person specification

  • Industry experience - Aerospace (ideal), Nuclear, Medical or Automotive (high end), Motorsport: all with high tolerances (+/-0.01mm, Airbus SO4 and S104 stds).
  • Working to AS9100 / EASA Part 21 (G) standards (ideal).
  • Must have good team working skills coupled with the ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment. 
  • Flexible and forward thinker with a 'can do' attitude.
  • Ideally located within easy local commute to Sutton-in-Ashfield site.
  • Able to cover shifts as required (rotating days/nights, some weekends or days)

Project NPI Engineer

Reports to: Engineering Manager

The Company

Midland Aerospace has an exciting new opportunity within a long established manufacturing organization, using a variety of Machining and Fabrication processes to manufacture their products from our modern purpose built facility located in Sutton-in-Ashfield.

We supply components into the civil and military Aerospace and Defense industry sectors, and have a vision to develop these and wider markets making the working environment fascinating and challenging.

A requirement has now arisen for an experienced Project/NPI Engineer to join the Company.

We are looking for a Project Engineer to be responsible for engineering and technical disciplines that projects involve. Have proven working experience as a Project/NPI engineer preferably in an Aerospace environment.

  1. Excellent knowledge of design and visualizations via CAD/3D software
  2. MS Office skills
  3. Familiarity with rules, regulations, best practices and performance standards within the industry would be beneficial.

Duties and responsibilities

This position reports directly to the Engineering Manager.

  • Prepare, schedule, coordinate and monitor assigned engineering projects
  • Conform to overall quality control of the work and report regularly on project status
  • Cooperate and communicate effectively with project managers and other project participants to provide assistance and technical support
  • Develop, oversee and seek continuous improvement of the Engineering process.
  • Prepares defined work packages, including detailed instructions, drawings, bills of material, references, inspection requirements etc.
  • Plan the process for manufacture
  • Planning to previously established and proven efficient manufacturing sequences and lead times
  • Prepare production reports and observations with recommendations regarding existing or required machinery
  • Prepare computer generated drawings to clarify instructions, & provide other relevant information, such as applicable spec’s and regulations
  • Confer with machining/programming staff concerning product and tooling to ensure efficient production methods
  • Conversant with the NPI construction, requirements and process.

Qualifications

  • The Ideal candidate will have an academic background if possible with NVQ level 3 / City & Guilds in Mechanical Engineering. Would have served a recognized apprenticeship and have good Aerospace experience.
  • Project Management qualifications would also be an advantage

Quality Inspector

Reports to: Inspection & Processes Supervisor

The Company

We supply components into the civil and military Aerospace and Defence industry sectors, and have a vision to develop these and wider markets making the working environment fascinating and challenging.

A requirement has now arisen for an experienced Quality Inspector to join the Company.

Duties and responsibilities

his position reports directly to the Machine Shop Team Leader, residing within the Manufacturing Supervisor’s area of responsibility within the operations team.

  • Experience of working with AS9100 requirements.
  • Use of quality tools and techniques such as 5 Why, 8D, PPAP, FMEA.
  • Able to read engineering drawings.
  • Assessment & approval of incoming materials and products to verify conformity to drawings/specifications.
  • Conducting visual and dimensional analysis, measurement tests and rejecting work.
  • Approves in process production by confirming specifications.
  • Stamping Job Cards to approve compliance to specifications.
  • Ability to problem solve potential issues and perform root cause analysis.
  • Must be able to sustain daily throughput requirements and accuracy of documentation.
  • Must be willing to work overtime when needed.
  • Must be able to adjust work schedule as needed.
  • Maintain measurement equipment and use of.
  • Checking for First Off and completion of First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs) details.

5 Axis CNC Setter/Operator

Reports to: Production Manager

The Company

Midland Aerospace has an exciting new opportunity within a long established manufacturing organisation, using a variety of Machining and Fabrication processes to manufacture their products from our modern purpose built facility located in Sutton-in-Ashfield.

We supply components into the civil and military Aerospace and Defence industry sectors, and have a vision to develop these and wider markets making the working environment fascinating and challenging.

A requirement has now arisen for an experienced 4/5 Axis Machinist to join the Company.

Duties and responsibilities

This position reports directly to the Machine Shop Team Leader, residing within the Manufacturing Supervisor’s area of responsibility within the operations team.

  • Experience of running HAAS, DMG (mainly) & Hermle machines – to cover multiple programs & product spread.
  • Experience of working multiple machines.
  • Setting and operating above machine types (Spindle probing, Datum setting, key characteristics and G,D&T, tool offsetting, program selection/saving, Balluff handling).
  • Reading 2D engineering drawings.
  • Recording productive time on manufacturing systems and managing Route Cards.
  • Partaking in team activities such as 5S, TPM, SQDCP board discussions, OEE and other improvement activities.
  • Promoting and maintaining a safe work environment and practices.
  • Self-inspection of parts produced, resolving Non-Conformance (NCR) issues.
  • Experienced use of standard measuring systems and methodologies.

Engineering Estimator (Aerospace)

Reports to: Engineering Manager

The Company

Midland Aerospace has an exciting new opportunity within a long established manufacturing organisation, using a variety of Machining and Fabrication processes to manufacture their products from our modern purpose built facility located in Sutton-in-Ashfield.

We supply components into the civil and military Aerospace and Defence industry sectors, and have a vision to develop these and wider markets making the working environment fascinating and challenging.

A requirement has now arisen for an experienced Estimator to take responsibility for handling RFQ’s, major bids as well as improving processes and optimising efficiencies.

Duties and responsibilities

This position reports directly to the Engineering Manager, and is a key position working with Managing Director, Sales Director and internal departments within the Company.

  • Receive, review and respond to Requests For Quotes (RFQ's) and lead Major Bids.
  • Summarizes component quote costs (i.e. materials, labour, rate) into top-level parts to produce an overall quote - includes tooling, programming costs and expected yield & scrap margin rates.
  • Analyse customer drawings, models, specifications and instructions to calculate or estimate product or process manufacturing costs.
  • Provide technical support to business development process in both internal and customer led activity, supporting bid preparation.
  • Liaise with internal and external supply chains to provide product manufacturing proposals and other responses to enquiries.
  • Work within the team to make business decisions on unit prices, price breaks as well as evaluating production capacity, lead times and capital constraints.
  • Administer the Quote / Estimate (QE) system.
  • Provide statistical analysis of RFQ performance (win/loss rate, reason, market etc.). 
  • Administer the Contract Review system, conveying estimates to production
  • Undertake internal cost reviews to identify opportunities for cost reduction and improvement.

Qualifications

  • The Ideal candidate will be educated to Degree level in Mechanical Engineering, however candidates educated to HNC level and with relevant experience will also be considered.

Person specification

  • Must have prior experience in the Aerospace market and used to working with Airbus specs and experience or knowledge of 5 Axis CNC machining & mill/turn activities.
  • Ideally, additional knowledge or experience of Fabrication, Assembly, paint and special processes sought after.
  • Previous experience of physical manufacturing experience in the above beneficial.
  • Technical competence, eye for detail, analytical thinking, commercial awareness and customer facing.
  • Excellent MS Office and previous business systems skills.
  • Develop excellent relationships via clear and concise communications.
  • Must have good team working skills coupled with the ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment. 
  • Excellent communicator, customer relationship builder with good organisational and co-ordination skills. 
  • Creative thinker with a 'can do' attitude.
  • A proven track record of successful bids in an engineering/manufacturing company.
